Countdown to the top 5 Baby Boomer’s Music

November 1, 2008 § Leave a comment

Usually, we consider the music from ‘60s as the cool ones or what we call “old school”. Old school is a term used to distinguish the music that we currently hear on radio stations in comparison with the music our father or mother(who were born in 1960’s) listened to. This is called the baby boomer music. Old school? Yes, old but not that old.

Did you know that our music today is greatly influenced by the music before? One of my friends told me what he’s read from a book. It says all the superb music are already done before, around the time of Beatles so it is very inevitable to make a song that has similarities with the songs before. Did you see how talented our baby boomer musicians are? And I guess the listeners of these musicians, also baby boomers are as intelligent as them for choosing the best music to listen to.

Now if you’re one of the baby boomers who want to be reminded of what they listened to before, I’ll provide you some information about the top five bands in 1960’s. I still doubt if I have to though. If it’s your favorite band, you’ll never forget it. I guess even if it’s already an era of CDs right now, you still listen to your old precious cassette tapes. Anywise here it is. We’ve got Supremes, Four Seasons, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, and of course the Beatles.

Supremes

Originally known as The Primettes, this group’s sound is a mix of doo-wop, pop, soul, broadway show tunes and disco. Titles of their songs that got into the US chart countdown include “Where did our Love Go”, “Baby Love”, “Come See about Me”, “Stop! In the Name of Love” and stuff.

Four Seasons

This one’s an American pop and rock group who were much known as “Franki Valli and The Four Seasons”. The group came from Newark, New Jersey, to be more specific. They produced music that has a genre of any of these: pop, RnB, Doo-wop, rock, motown and disco but in 1960s they made it to be one of the internationally famous rock and roll icons.

Rolling Stones

The final Rolling Stones is composed of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood. They also got former members like any usual band. This London-based group has the genre of Rock, blues rock, rhythm and blues, and hard rock.

Beach Boys

Members of this band came from Hawthorne, California and USA. They’ve been under the labels Capitol, Brother, Reprise and Caribou.

Beatles

Who will forget this awesome band– John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr? These people are one of the respected musicians before and even today. The band gave the best baby boomer music for their times with their songs such as “Let it be”, “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “All you Need is Love”, “Revolution” and a lot more that are too many to mention.
